I have been working on learning a new song on the guitar. I heard someone play it years ago on an acoustic guitar. Instead of strumming, they played it fingerstyle and let each note ring out. The song is “As the Deer Pants for the Water.” It was written by Martin Nystrom in 1984 and it is based on Psalm 42. The lyrics are posted below. After a couple of weeks, I am just now getting to the point where I can consistently keep the fingerpicking pattern going while changing chords and attempting to sing the song. It is a process and although I have not attained it yet, I am pressing on in my efforts to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. It is a beautiful song of praise based on a beautiful psalm. May the Lord bless you through the lyrics.
Verse 1
As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship Thee
You alone are my Strength, my Shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship Thee.
Verse 2
You’re my Friend and You are my Brother
Even though You are my King
I love You more than any other
So much more than anything
You alone are my Strength, my Shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship Thee.
Verse 3
I want You more than gold or silver
Only You can satisfy
You alone are the real joy-giver
And the apple of my eye
You alone are my Strength, my Shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship Thee.
I pray that this week is a good week for you. I pray that you will be blessed with the presence, the peace and the love of the Lord.
Until next time, stay strong in the faith,
Pastor Phillip Stephens
