Which Way Will You Go? Will You Listen?

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But a wise man is he who listens to counsel.”  Proverbs 12:15

There was a young man moving away and going to off to college.  An older friend of his took him aside and told him about what he could expect.  He told him about some of the people he would meet and how not everybody would have the same goals and ambitions.  He told him that some would profess the same goals and ambitions but they would get distracted and knocked off course by some of the pitfalls and problems of college life.  He told the young man what to expect and asked him not to go off course like so many others.  The young man thanked his older, wiser friend and headed off to school.  Just one year later, he had gone from being an “A” student to being on scholastic probation.  I am pleased to say the story has a happy ending.  Ultimately the Lord introduced the young man to a good woman and the Lord used her to help the young man get back on track.  I graduated 5 years later on the dean’s list.

I heard what my older friend said but I did not listen.  “The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But a wise man is he who listens to counsel.”  Sometimes we treat the Lord that way.  Sometimes we wait and wait for Him to speak and when He does, we listen respectfully but many times we don’t act on what He says, we ignore Him and forge ahead and do what pleases us rather than what would please Him.  Let’s face it, most of the time we just don’t listen.

If you haven’t heard from the Lord yet on some issue, keep your life lined up with His will and His word and just keep praying.  And when He does speak to you follow His instructions.  At the right time He will tell you all that you need to know.  There are many things in this life that we don’t understand.  Some things are on a need to know basis.  Some things we won’t understand until much later in this life, but when you need instruction; when you need wisdom, the Lord is willing to provide it.  The Bible says in James 1:5

“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”  James 1:5

It is not a question of if God will give us instruction; it is a question of whether or not we will RECEIVE His instruction.  Keep asking, keep seeking and answers will be provided unto you.  Then the only question that remains is whether or not you will follow the instructions you’ve been given.

My wife Marta and I have been blessed with a wonderful family that includes our daughter, her husband and their two daughters and our son and his wife and their son. Each of them are very special to us so please keep them all in your prayers. One truth that I always try to share with people I meet is that anything God asks you to do, He will help you to do. God has your back.
