Are You Weary?

Matthew 11:28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.  29 “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.”

This past weekend was one that was emotionally and physically draining for several people I know.  I was ministering to a family that was preparing for a funeral service when out of the blue tragedy struck.  One of the family members who was greatly involved in the planning of the service passed away in an accident just a few hours before the service.  Naturally the siblings were shell-shocked.  Loss upon loss and tragedy upon tragedy had come into their lives.  There were so many questions and so few answers.  It was a tough time indeed.  As I shared the news with the family, we leaned together on God’s word and His faithfulness.  We acknowledged that we will trust Him to get us through this situation.  I don’t know how anyone could face such a situation without Jesus.  He says to all who face difficult situations,

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.”  Matthew 11:28 – 29

The family and I went straight to Him, we gave Him our burden and we leaned on Him and not on our own understanding.  We asked Him to strengthen us, to comfort us and to help us lean on our faith.  Many prayers will continue to be needed in the upcoming months.  More trials and tribulations may be on their way as the family deals with some of the questions and doubts that arise in the aftermath of a tragic accident.  But through it all I know that they can depend upon the Lord to lead them through it and provide them rest so that they will have the strength to go on.

About pastorpstephens

I have been blessed to have served as a pastor, a chaplain and to have been involved in other ministries throughout the years. My wife Marta and I have been blessed with a wonderful family that includes our daughter, her husband and their two daughters and our son and his wife and their son. Each of them are very special to us so please keep them all in your prayers. One truth that I always try to share with people I meet is that anything God asks you to do, He will help you to do. God has your back.
