Last night was a rough night. I think I overdid it yesterday. My wife and I went out to eat and it was great to get out of the house – there is such a thing as cabin fever. But I ended up sitting in some chairs that did not provide the same level of support and comfort as the ones I have at home and I think that is why I ached a little more during the night. I ended up watching the clock at various times counting down the minutes until I expected the pain medication to take effect and then woke up a couple of hours later and counted down the time until I was scheduled to take another one. I was not in excruciating pain, but the sciatic nerve was causing me some pain in my hip and down into my right hamstring. I tried to take my mind off of my immediate circumstances by praying for my family and friends and thanking the Lord for the fact that I knew what I was experiencing would not last. I knew that I could keep going. I knew that I could depend on the promise found in Philippians 4:13 which says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
As I lay there meditating on God’s faithfulness, I reflected on the fact that there are others out there who are in some type of pain or distress who do not know that they can rely on God and that they can trust Him even in the midst of their tossing and turning at night. So, if anyone is out there and their heart has ached and they have wondered, “Why should I keep going? How can I keep going?” let me lovingly share some thoughts with you.
You should keep going because God loves you! God loves you so much that He gave His only begotten Son so that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16) The Lord Almighty has expressed a love for you that is indescribable and uncontainable and He longs to pour it forth into your life through a relationship with His Son Jesus Christ.
You should keep going because Jesus Christ will help you overcome any obstacles you face. The bible promises in Philippians 4:19
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Whatever you need, God shall supply it through His Son Christ. Do you need strength? You can have it! Do you need wisdom? He’s got it! Patience? No, problem! Do you need to be able to make it through the next 20 minutes until your pain medication takes effect? The Lord can get you there! Whatever your need is, God will meet it through a relationship in Jesus Christ! He meets our physical needs, our emotional needs, our mental needs, and greatest of all He meets our spiritual needs through the forgiveness of our sin.
“How can I keep going?” you ask. You can keep going through the power, the presence and the person of Jesus Christ in your life. You can keep going because God has your back.
