“…Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?” Psalm 139:7
One year since my back surgery and I am doing great! Even shopping doesn’t bother my back. This past weekend my wife and I took our daughter and our two granddaughters shopping for Easter dresses. We had a great time. I was able to carry the two year old anytime she got tired without worrying about it causing my back to lock up or without fear about how I would feel the next day. The only worry I had was when my granddaughter decided that playing hide and seek under the clothes rack wasn’t enough fun and decided to escalate this game by running away as fast as she could. Since she is only about two feet tall I quickly lost sight of her. Luckily she was trailing her hand across the dresses and shirts and she ran leaving a path of swaying and disheveled merchandise in her wake. Suddenly the clothes stopped moving and I began to panic as I had not yet gained sight of her. I turned a corner and there she was looking up at me smiling. I told her we aren’t supposed to run in the store because it is dangerous. I am not sure she totally understood how I felt. It was a scary moment when I couldn’t keep my eyes on her and see her. When I did not know where she was I was unable to watch over her and protect her. “Please stay where I can see you!” I said. I am so glad that I don’t have to worry about getting out of the Lord’s sight. In Psalm 139:7-10 David says,
“…Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me.” Psalm 139:7-10
There is no place that we can go that the Lord cannot see us; no place that we can go that He cannot find us. What a comforting thought. We do not have to go through any anxiety about whether or not He is near or whether or not He can get to us in time to rescue us and save us. I have wandered off a few times in my life but He has always been there when I called. He has never, ever lost sight of me! He is always able to protect us and watch over us. He is always able to find us even when we run away. He is always able to pick us up and bring us back home. Our Lord is truly amazing.
